Discovering Grenada: My Birthday Adventure

This September, I decided to spend my birthday somewhere special: Grenada. It was my first time visiting, and as someone who grew up in Trinidad and Tobago, I wasn't quite sure what to expect. I've always heard stories and saw videos about the island, but nothing could have prepared me for the beauty that awaited me.

One of the most meaningful parts of the journey was being able to explore areas where my dad's family grew up and where my mom grew up. There was something deeply emotional about walking through spaces that were connected to my roots. It gave me a greater appreciation for the island, its culture, and my heritage.

I spent a lot of time driving around the island with my aunt, taking in the breathtaking scenery and soaking up the local culture. We visited almost every parish, which gave me the chance to see just how diverse and vibrant Grenada is. Each parish felt unique, but they all shared that same warmth from the people and an undeniable sense of pride in their island.

Whether it was the gorgeous beaches, the lush rainforests and waterfalls, or the endless fields of spices — Grenada is called the Spice Isle for good reason — there was always something new to discover. The kindness and generosity I experienced reminded me of the warmth back home in Trinidad.

I'm so grateful I went on this trip, and I know I'll be visiting Grenada more often. Not only did I leave with unforgettable memories, but I also gained a stronger sense of who I am and where my family comes from. Grenada is now more than just a beautiful place to me — it's a part of my story.
